Color update.....

These are samples from the Color Confidence workshop with Sarah Jackson. Each participant, 19 of us, had been given a warp ahead of time to get on the loom, all of them had 5 different colored stripes. Mine was yellow, light orange, orange, hot pink and pink. Some of these samples are plain weave, some are summer and winter. 

We looked at and discussed everyone's samples - it was quite interesting to see weft colors chosen and those that were successful, those that were not. In my sample I really like the summer and winter samples on the bottom quarter of my right hand sample. There were colors I would have never considered using with these warp colors that turned out very successful.  I'll be using this knowledge in future weaving. 

I don't weave with orange often, I've got around 6 pounds of 2 different shades of orange in 8/2 cotton that I can now see as towels using some what might be called unusual weft colors but I now know will turn out quite interesting.  I already had a towel warp planned using 3 shades of seaglass greens, I may now try different wefts than I had already thought about. Hoping to get to this project next week. 

I wish I had gotten photos of everyone else's warps as there were some incredible color combinations in them. I think we're going to use our samples in an exhibit at the library early next year so I'll have a chance to get photos then.  

We also worked on wraps where we took photos and made yarn wraps around cardstock using 5 colors out of those photos. These were great color exercises. I totally enjoyed Sarah Jackson as an instructor, she did a great job even with the horrible cold she had. 

Color........

My weaving guild is bringing in Sarah Jackson for a 3 day workshop on color.  Sarah sent the warps and will be bringing all weft materials.  All the warps were different, this is the one I ended up with. I got the table loom warped yesterday and all my supplies together as I'm not one to leave it until the last minute. It should be a fun workshop and I look forward to learning new things about color interaction.

Parallel.......

This past weekend my weaving guild hosted Robyn Spady for a workshop on parallel weaves. Robyn is a top notch instructor, the most well prepared, easy to understand instructor and has the best handouts ever.

Of course, I didn't take but a couple pictures as I was weaving my samples. I wove a total of just under 3 yards of samples, all different treadlings, one shuttle, two shuttles on my M's & W's parallel threading. My warp was a light sage green and very dark navy blue.

My first two samples started out using the same colors as the warp - then I experimented with color for the remainder of the samples, some very successful, some not like this deep red. There were some incredible color combinations but I was too busy to think about pulling out my phone all the time to take photos. A very fun learning process playing with color while learning about all the treadling possibilities with the threading.  

I can see many warps in my future based on what I learned in this workshop......now if I could just mark some more things off my very long to-do list so I can try something new.........

This and that.........

We had a little different program at our weaving guild meeting on Saturday - we made bead bracelets. Fellow guild member Thalia was our teacher - she had decided since the nylon thread was woven around the leather cord and beads that it was technically weaving. This is my finished bracelet in my favorite color - unfortunately the camera didn't capture the sparkle.

 Here's a view showing the button used for the closure.  Of course the gal at the bead shop steered me wrong on the side beads to use - everyone else had beads twice this size (most buying kits from Thalia). So I put 2 beads side by side.  Was a little tough getting it started but then it was a breeze.  I'll be making a few more of these.

 An order of tencel arrived last week, it was on sale at Webs.  I was running out of some colors and then bought a few new that I haven't bought before - love the seafoam color, not sure about that baby blue but someone else will like it. Webs was out of black, which I use a lot of, so that's back-ordered. If you could see the shelves that house tencel in my studio you'd wonder why I bought more.......I have every color Webs carries now that I filled in a few.  I buy most of my yarns wholesale but I haven't found a good source for tencel and I go through a lot of tencel. If any other weavers out there know of a good wholesale source for tencel I'd love to know - the Webs sales are pretty good so I haven't put anymore energy into looking for several years.

Yesterday I warped up my table loom for an upcoming Robyn  Spady workshop. She's always well prepared and full of knowledge to share.  Yesterday I also wove the final scarf on the AVL warp and got those scarves washed.  Now I have a pile of scarves that need the fringes twisted - pictures to follow once that's done. But today I need to sew a tote bag for a birthday gift so my Bernina can go in for it's cleaning/maintenance tomorrow.  It's been really nice to get a few fiber days in my way too busy schedule..........
