When we first moved to Oregon we designed and built a house that is now in one of the fire's paths - it is at the top of the ridge next to our old place, this morning the fire is even closer, it is in level 3 evacuation orders. We lived there for 11 years and even though it's been 17 years since we've lived in that house it saddens me to think of it burning to the ground. It was a beautiful cedar home on an incredible 6 acres.
As if it weren't bad enough last night I got an email via the neighborhood email 'tree' - some guys started a fire at the railroad tracks just blocks from us. It was put out quickly, not sure the status of those that started it, was it an accident or was it on purpose, hopefully they were caught so we can sleep at night. If a fire starts right around there we may not make it out safely.
.....yep, life can be good too.........
Stay safe everyone!
It is so scary just hearing about all those fires; I can’t imagine living there. Especially in the time of Covid. My best wishes for rain, cool temps, and no wind are with you and the entire coast.
ReplyDeleteI wondered if your old house had been evacuated. The AQI here is over 550 but at least we are free from fire and don’t have any threat at this time. The increase in humidity has been a boon to the firefighters who are true heroes in my opinion. And the mortalities are just now surfacing - a horror movie in real life.
ReplyDeleteOur last house we moved from 2 years ago is fine, it's the house we built when we first moved to Oregon that's very close to the edge of the fire now. The heavy smoke here has helped keep the fire down but it also means no air support as they can't see. I'm glad you're safe there. I read last night that the town of Detroit is gone - I remember driving through there when doing a road trip from Salem to Sisters/Bend.
DeleteI am in California and fortunately not near the fires but we have very dangerous smoke from them and have to stay inside. I hope you have your car all packed just in case and then hope you don't have to evacuate it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you continue to stay safe......and definitely stay inside out of the smoke.
DeleteSuch a scary time for you Cindy. We too are under a thick blanket of smoke, and we are several hundred kilometers away. I wake up at night and think the smoke is near and it scares the heck out of me, I can only imagine how awful it is for you. We will continue to send good thoughts your way.
