12 Days of Christmas - Day 3

Here's day 3 of the 12 Days spin-a-long - I'm not sure my plan of waiting to start spinning after I see all 12 packets is going to work - this is killing me.......

  1. I want to learn to spin. I have some undyed mohair and llama wool (separate... Not blended). Will I be frustrated starting out with these fibers? Is there a better fiber for a beginner to start with? Is it better to start on a suspended drop spindle than a wheel? Thanks.

    1. No, they won't be frustrating to learn on - my thought is the mohair would be easiest to start with. Easy fibers to start with might be Corriedale, Romney, Blue Face. I learned on a wheel, later also picked up the drop spindle. I don't think one is easier than the other - it's up to you on what you'd like to learn on. A drop spindle is certainly less expensive to learn on in case you're not sure if you'll like it or not - not a big investment to test it out.

  2. I would have given up on Day 2 and started spinning! I admire your will power.

Have you considered buying two "12 Days of Christmas" next year? You could spin set as you open them, and then the other in whatever order you prefer....

    1. Buying two sets would be ideal except that it's a limited edition and one can only sign up for one set. If there were extras they would then be available except there's always a waiting list for them.

  3. One of my cats just jumped on my mouse hand when I was going to preview my earlier comment. Instead, we published! Thank goodness we didn't delete an important file....
